"L" reflects both the 50 exhibitions that have been put on at the "La Kursala" gallery, and the 50 catalogs that have accompanied them. The "Cuadernos de La Kursala" boast both a longstanding trajectory and notable international acclaim in the world of photobooks. Both Kursala gallery and "L" are curated by Jesús Micó.
Some of these editions represent landmarks in the history of the photobook, including “La caza del lobo congelado” by Ricardo Cases (2009), “The Afronauts” by Cristina de Middel (2012) or “Ostalgia” by Simona Rota (2013) and a long list of others. Books by authors of the caliber of Federico Clavarino, Juan Diego Valera, Juan Valbuena, Vicente Paredes, Palíndromo Mészáros, Marta Soul, Roger Guaus, Gustavo Alemán, los Ouroboros, Iñaki Domingo, Igor Fernández de Retana, Christian Lagata, etc. Fifty publications that, over the years, have involved the participation of noteworthy professionals from the world of photography, design and publishing.
For this celebration, five of its authors – Ricardo Cases, Cristina de Middel, Aleix Plademunt, Simona Rota and Juan Valbuena – have returned to “La Kursala” with projects that were designed for this issue.
The book features texts by Horacio Fernández, Gonzalo Golpe and Jesús Micó.
To illustrate the complete Kursala's body of work we created a series of still lifes for which we used all of the photobooks that have been published to date. Photos made in collaboration with Mercedes Cosano.
